Description

The Valsesian territory, thanks to its wide variety of landscapes, is the ideal destination for snow and winter sports lovers.

Of great importance is, of course, the “Monterosa Ski" area, which links Alagna to Gressoney and Champoluc, in the Aosta Valley, for a total of almost 180 km of groomed slopes with various levels of difficulty. The large number of tracks suitable for “off-piste" with about 2000 meters of vertical drop that create very long descents, articulated in a multifaceted, colorful and heterogeneous landscape, has earned Alagna the qualification of “Freeride Paradise" attracting people from all over the world. Along the slopes of Alagna, there are many alpine huts and restaurants where you can relax in the sun and enjoy the excellent Valsesian cuisine.

In Riva Valdobbia we find, instead, the cross-country ski center “La Marmotta Rosa" which has 15 km of tracks with easy and difficult routes, which develop between larch and birch woods and more open sections, which line the river. The “Gianni Severina” Sports Center, equipped with bar, restaurant, rental, showers, toilets, changing rooms, is the heart of the facility and the starting point of the track. The track is flanked on some sections by a path dedicated to pedestrians and snowshoers.

A few kilometers from Alagna, going down towards the valley, in the village of Scopello, there is another ski resort, more modest in size, but with slopes suitable for everyone. The “Alpe di Mera”, with its 30 km of slopes, is, mostly, attended by families and ski clubs. Many lovers of snowshoeing choose Mera as a destination for their winter excursions. The station is full of hotels, alpine huts and farmhouses.

We now move to Val Sermenza, a small but amazing side valley of Valsesia where we find, in the enchanting village of Carcoforo, another cross-country ski track. The center offers 7 km of slopes of varying difficulty. Also suitable for beginners, the slopes have gentle descents and soft climbs. The offer is completed by an ice rink, a rental service and a restaurant on the rink.

The Valsesian area is also attended by ski mountaineering lovers: a demanding discipline that brings together two of the most classic and mountain-related sports practices. Our “Monte Rosa” offers to its explorers dozens of kilometers of slopes, from the simplest excursions on the quiet snowy slopes of the main hills, to the demanding descents in the woods, from high altitude trips to explore the highest peaks to those to discover the most hidden corners of uncontaminated mountain pastures and the intact ecosystem of the Alta Valsesia Natural Park.

The mountain paths that connect the villages of Valsesia to the highest peaks, during the summer they are frequented by a large number of hikers, in winter turn into a real paradise, not only for those who practice ski mountaineering, but also for snowshoeing lovers. Thanks to a wide choice of paths, from the easiest and most suitable for families with children to the most demanding ones with large differences in height suitable for more experienced hikers, Valsesia has become, in a short time, a very popular destination for the practice of this winter sport.

The valley is also well-known for the “Heliski” activity, in which the helicopter is used as a means of ascent and the skier can relate to the purest snowy peaks of the territorial Alpine arc, descending from the slopes sliding on the best snow through particular landscapes, otherwise unattainable.

Another wonderful and stimulating reality of the Valsesian mountains, the one to experience when the season hardens, is “Ice climbing” which allows a special discovery of the mountain territory. It is only water that freezing penetrates the rock but the result, in relation to the conformity of the rocky surfaces, is surprising, spectacular and exciting, for those who decide to try to conquer it.

Throughout the territory, there are many ski instructors, mountain and hiking guides who can accompany you in the discovery of our stunning valley by practicing all of these magnificent winter sports! We look forward to welcoming you in Valsesia where you will find the snow you have always dreamed of, that’s for sure!
